About us

Shelter and Care Foundation is a registered non-profit foundation. It aims to support children with disabilities, enabling them to realize their full potential through new opportunities, personal choice, skills learning and community involvement. Shelter and Care emphasizes that handicapped and disabled children must be encouraged to become self-dependent and productive part of their society.

Our Background

World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank (WB), both, claim that one (01) billion people, or 15% of the world’s population, experience some form of disability. Disability prevalence is higher for developing countries. One-fifth of the estimated global total experience significant disabilities. Persons with disabilities are more likely to experience adverse socioeconomic outcomes than persons without disabilities, such as less education, poorer health outcomes, lower levels of employment, and higher poverty rates. Majority of people with disabilities in the world have an extremely difficult time with everyday survival. Inadequate policies and standards, negative attitudes, inadequate funding, lack of accessibility, consultation and environment contribute to make the situation more vulnerable.
